Story Connections

Lesson 1: Through Grandpa's Eyes Lesson 2: The Cat Who Became a Poet
A Day's Outline - Students will complete one of the outlines below and then write a paragraph in Microsoft Word.

Fantasy or Reality? Students will identify elements of reality and fantasy and support their ideas using text support.

Lesson 3: A Cloak for the Dreamer Lesson 4: Picasso
Create a Cloak - Students will create a cloak pattern using geometric shapes.  Click the link below and scroll down to the Pattern Blocks manipulative.  To rotate each shape, move the mouse to the corner of the shape and a black dot will appear.  Grab the dot to rotate the shape. 

Design a Coat-of-Arms - Students will design their own coat-of-arms.  Use the template provided on the website to print and color the coat-of-arms. Use the KidPix template to complete the shield on the computer.

Vocabulary-Students will use various strategies to unlock unknown words.

Comparison Chart - Students will compare events and experiences in their lives to Picasso's life. 

Picasso Biography Cube - Students will gather information about Picasso and publish in an appropriate manner.

Compare Contrast Activity - Students will compare and contrast two versions of the The Emperor's New Clothes.

Imagination Unit Introduction (Movie File)
  Mistakes that Worked! Biographical Research

Students will identify cause and effect relationships.

Students conduct online research and complete the Inspiration organizer about a famous person who used their imagination.
Point of View Music Thoughts
Students will write from a chair's point of view.

 

Students will listen to pieces of music and record the images that come to mind. Students will then compose a story to accompany a piece of music of their choosing.  
Through Leonardo's Eyes Discovering a New Planet

Students will  gather information from the website to complete the observation guide.

 

Students will create their own planet.

 

 

Create-a-Bus
Use this fun activity with or without a great read aloud: Bus-a-Saurus Bop by Diane Shore.  Students will brainstorm what the most incredible bus in the world would look like and what it would have inside.  Students create a picture in KidPix and write a short description of their bus.

Disney Insider

If you're curious about the people who used their imaginations to create the Disney movies, this is the place to go. The Disney Vault has biographies of the Disney legends, and the Disney Family Museum is dedicated to Walt Disney. The Search Disney movies and characters in the Disney Archives.

Figments Imagination

Includes information and links about the Figment the dragon from Disney World's original Journey into Imagination ride. Has music including "One Little Spark of Inspiration".

National Gallery of Art for Kids

Includes online exhibits, games, interactive activities, and teacher resources.

Imagination Vocabulary Crossword
